So let's read her views
further
1)What has been the most
inspirational moment in your career?
I have been working with
children since 14 years. I have had one child who wad diagnosed with autism.
After 1 year of therapy her mother went back to the developmental pediatrician
for a follow up. She was thrilled with her progress. This girl is my
inspiration. I am still in touch with her.
2) Do you consider Occupational therapy more
challenging than it is understood?
Occupational therapy is a function and a
breathe of freshness. It is a complex interplay of skills and expertise.
3) How do you view the
exponential growth in the field of pediatric Occupational therapy as a lot of
professionals prefer starting pediatric clinic?
There is demand and hence
the supply. This growth is definitely increasing to a great level considering
the medical advances and awareness created about developmental delay
4) What are the newer areas
of practice being developed in Occupational therapy that should be further
explored?
Mindfulness is the next in
thing. I practice it with fervour. The next area is sleep disorders and
Occupational Therapy. A major area of focus is
embracing holistic wellbeing and positive living.
5) Do you think the fresh
graduates are competitive in knowledge to the market demand of Occupational
therapy and how this can be built further?
They are academically
competitive. It is the private practice understanding which takes time and an
integral element is marketing. We also need a private practitioners association
to build up our professional position.
Your highlights:
*My Professional Strength -Professional
commitment and empathy.
*My difficult moment- I have
had a child whom I assessed at 1 year of age and then they discontinued therapy
as they felt the child would improve. I saw him after 4 years and I realized
that it was indeed very difficult to go back in time.
*I am known for- Referrals
network, love for teaching and research
*My favorite pastime- I love
reading fiction and also holistic living books.
P.S: I extend my gratitude
to her for giving me her valuable time. See you all next Saturday with another
guest.
